County Executive
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi issued the following statement regarding Dane County experiencing a record one day increase in the number of COVID-19 cases:
“Public Health Madison & Dane County is reporting test results that came in this morning show the highest number of positive cases in one day since this pandemic began. Unfortunately, it's a reminder of how quickly a community's situation with COVID-19 can change and that when people gather together - regardless the setting - this virus has a way of quickly catching hold and spreading.
“According to Public Health Madison & Dane County, a significant portion of the new cases being reported today involve young people ages 18-22. Contact tracing is working to determine how many of these individuals may be students at the University of Wisconsin Madison. While we may be the fastest growing county in Wisconsin, we remain a small, inter-connected community. Those who go to school here, work here, and live here. Public Health will be working with the University of Wisconsin to monitor this data in the days ahead.
“Given the many unknowns about the long-term impacts of COVID-19, we need to continue our work as a community to reduce risk - not only for ourselves, but also for the folks we come into contact with on a daily basis. This virus severely sickens some randomly, without discretion. As Labor Day weekend nears, we are reminded of the continued sacrifice everyone is making to keep our families and communities safe in the midst of this awful pandemic. We are especially grateful to all the health care, grocery, and other front-line workers who get up and go to work every day not knowing if they will come into contact with this virus.”
