Resolution Awarding Contracts for Food Pantry Aid ARP Grants to be Considered by County Board

The Dane County Board of Supervisors will meet tonight for the final meeting in 2022. The hybrid meeting will take place both virtually and in room 201 of the City-County Building. At the meeting, the County Board will consider a resolution that, if approved, would award $2 million across 18 agencies to bolster efforts to meet client and community needs.
“Community organizations have played and continue to play a pivotal role in providing food for residents of Dane County as the pandemic added additional financial stress to individuals and households,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles.
Of the 18 agencies receiving funds, 13 are receiving less than $100,000, while 5 are receiving more than $100,000.
“Food insecurity has always been an issue, however, the pandemic and inflation has exacerbated the impacts on the residents of Dane County. As someone who has experienced food insecurity as a child and as an adult, I’m pleased we are able to provide these funds to various organizations throughout the county to assist in providing these services to the community,” said County Board Supervisor Michele Doolan (District 28).
The resolution notes that the continued impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the impacts of inflation has added a stress to local food pantries.
Grant activities include purchase of culturally relevant food, expansion of, or needed adaptation to, any current operating expenses to increase food security for Dane County residents, and improve food distribution infrastructure.
