Mt. Horeb Man Arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer

Dane County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested Maxwell R. Lampe, age 22, of Mt. Horeb, on multiple charges, including impersonating a police officer, stalking, and unlawful use of a telephone.

The investigation began on Tuesday, January 20th, when one of the victims contacted authorities after receiving a phone call from Lampe, who falsely identified himself as Officer Daniels from the Madison Police Department. The suspect claimed he was conducting an investigation and proceeded to ask the victim a number of sexually explicit questions. As detectives continued their work, they learned that the Madison Police Department was investigating a similar report involving a second victim.

Lampe is currently being held in the Dane County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone who may have received a similar call to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
