MADISON — Dane County Executive Melissa Agard today issued the following statement commemorating Memorial Day and honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States:

“Across generations, brave Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation, our democracy, and the values we hold dear. Their service helped protect the freedoms and opportunities that define this country. Memorial Day is a time for remembrance and gratitude.

“Today, we honor those lives lost in service to our nation and remember the families, friends, and communities who continue to carry that sacrifice with them every day. Here in Dane County, we are proud to recognize the service of our veterans and military families, and we remain committed to supporting those who have served our country.

“As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day weekend, let us also take time to remember those who never made it home. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
