DANE COUNTY - Dane County Executive Melissa Agard is proclaiming June as Dairy Month in Dane County, recognizing the vital role dairy farmers, processors, workers, and dairy businesses play in supporting the county’s economy, agricultural heritage, and rural communities.

“Dairy is an important part of Dane County’s history, economy, and identity,” said County Executive Agard. “Dairy Month is an opportunity to recognize the hard work of the farmers, families, and workers who help feed our communities, support local jobs, and carry forward a proud agricultural tradition.”

Dane County is home to approximately 170 dairy farms and around 150,000 cows, making dairy a significant part of the county’s agricultural economy and rural landscape. As home to World Dairy Expo, Dane County also plays a leading role in advancing and celebrating Wisconsin’s dairy tradition. Dairy farmers have also been innovative, willing partners in addressing runoff challenges and advancing practices that support healthy land and clean water.

“Dairy Month is a time to celebrate the people behind one of Wisconsin’s signature industries and to acknowledge the importance of agriculture in our daily lives,” Agard said. “Their dedication, resilience, and stewardship help keep Dane County strong.”

Throughout June, Dairy Month serves as a reminder of the value of local agriculture and the many ways dairy producers contribute to the health, culture, and economy of the region. Dane County remains committed to supporting agricultural communities and recognizing the essential role farmers play in sustaining a vibrant local food system.

County Executive Agard encourages residents to celebrate Dairy Month by supporting local dairy farmers and businesses, learning more about the county’s agricultural heritage, and taking time to recognize the contributions of the dairy industry to communities throughout Dane County.

“As we celebrate Dairy Month, let us thank the people who make this proud tradition possible and continue working together to support a strong future for agriculture in Dane County.”
