TOWN OF DUNN FATALITY CRASH - UPDATE

Madison, WI.  Friday, May 15, 2009 – At 3:01 p.m., the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, along with McFarland Police, Fire, and EMS, and Madison Fire responded to a two-car fatality crash on U.S. Highway 51, just south of Exchange Street, in the town of Dunn.

 A 1995 Acura Integra was traveling south on U.S. Highway 51 from McFarland when the driver lost control on the shoulder of the road while trying to pass another vehicle. This vehicle then crossed the center line and crashed into a 2006 Chevy Impala traveling north on U.S. Highway 51.

 Two passengers from the first vehicle were ejected from the vehicle. One was pronounced deceased at the scene, the other was transported to a local hospital by med flight with life threatening injuries. A passenger in the second vehicle was also transported to a local hospital via ambulance with life threatening injuries.

 June 16, 2009 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office announced that the driver of the offending vehicle, Richard J. Nelson (age 22) from Stoughton, has been arrested for Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle and has been booked into the Dane County Jail.  Excessive speed was a contributing factor in this crash.

 Andrea R. Garcia (age 19) from Madison, a passenger in Nelson’s vehicle, was killed as a result of this crash.  Another passenger in Nelson’s vehicle, Bradford G. Anderson (age 20) from Stoughton, was treated and released from an area hospital.

 The driver of the northbound vehicle is identified as Mark Stutman from Pennsylvania.  Stutman’s wife, Pamela, remains in a local hospital and her condition is improving.
