Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today urged those struggling with their house payments to attend a workshop in Madison this weekend to see what options are available to lower their mortgage payments. The “Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home” event will be held at the Madison Area Technical College Truax Campus from 9:00 until noon Saturday. The Dane County Foreclosure Prevention Taskforce, in collaboration with Dane County and the City of Madison, is putting on the workshop to help families struggling with mortgage payments apply to their lenders for more affordable financing. “This workshop will help hundreds of Dane County families struggling to keep up to avoid the pain and pitfalls of foreclosure,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said. “Thanks to help from the federal government, we can keep more families in need, in their homes.” Falk noted that because of the national economic recession there were a record 1,203 home foreclosures in Dane County in 2008. Foreclosure figures are already up 38% this year. More than 140 attorneys, law students, and trained counselors will volunteer their time Saturday to help homeowners in need to navigate through the paperwork and process to get assistance with loan modification. That assistance is made available by President Obama’s Making Home Affordable Program which offers incentives to lenders to restructure loan agreements. It’s estimated that nearly 500 homeowners could be helped at Saturday’s “Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home” event. Those looking for more information are urged to go to www.daneforeclosurehelp.org or call 211. # # #
