Welcome Home Calendar Features Works by Local Artists

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission unveils its 2012 Art Calendar Welcome Home at a free public reception honoring fourteen local artists on Wednesday, November 9, from 5:30-7:00 pm at Manna Café and Bakery  in Madison (611 N. Sherman Ave). The reception introduces the 13th art calendar, honors 2012 calendar artists, and features live music by Madison Music Makers.

“Every day we are reminded of how much Dane County has to offer our residents and visitors – from exciting urban life, to world-renowned agriculture, to our lakes and natural spaces,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “The local artists who contribute to the county’s art calendar each year are a testament to yet another of Dane County strengths – our thriving arts community.”

The 2012 calendars cost $9.48 each (plus sales tax) and are available at many retail locations and municipal halls, the Cultural Affairs Commission Office (Room 421, City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), and at culturalaffairscommission.com.

Welcome Home, our stunning 2012 art calendar, is a gift to Dane County citizens, residents, family and friends, near and far,” says Karen Crossley, “Beautiful artwork created by our talented local artists inspires us every day and reminds us why there’s no place quite like our Dane County Home.”

Welcome Home is the 13th edition in the annual calendar series highlighting arts, culture and creativity of Dane County and the surrounding region. Welcome Home was produced with financial support  from Alliant Energy and designed by Phil Hamilton, emeritus professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Calendar purchases help support the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission’s mission and programs: fostering public participation, increasing access, and forging alliances in support of arts, culture and local history.

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission was created by the Dane County Board of Supervisors in 1976, at the end of the American bicentennial observance, to foster public participation in local arts and historical activity; to increase public access to the cultural resources of the county; and to forge working alliances between public and private sectors in support of the arts. More information on the Commission is available at culturalaffairscommission.com.
