Local Resource to Help Veterans Access Benefits, Support, Established in 1942

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi recognized the Dane County’s Veterans Service Office (VSO) on the celebration of their 70th anniversary today.  Since 1942, the county VSO has been a local resource for Dane County veterans seeking assistance and support when they have completed their service to our country.

“Dane County is committed to serving our veterans and their families who have given so much to their country and to our community,” said Parisi.  “While we can’t thank them enough for their sacrifice, we will continue to honor their service by helping them access the resources they deserve.”

Trained and experienced county Veteran Service Officers work one on one with veterans and through community outreach to ensure individuals can navigate and have access to the benefits and services they have earned through their service.

The Dane County VSO currently serves approximately 33,000 Dane County veterans and their families with issues such as disability claims, VA health care enrollment, education benefits, death and burial benefits, and more.

Veteran Services Officer Sergeant BJ Ganem noted that over time, the office has also been a resource to local veterans who are looking for a veterans community, need help with job searches, buying their first home, personal financing and beyond.

“The role of the county VSO has grown as Veterans Benefits and Services change and as more men and women come home every year after selflessly protecting our freedoms,” said Sgt. Ganem.  “We stand ready to assist veterans and their families with whatever they need, just as the VSO has been for the last 70 years.”

To accomplish their goals, the county VSO works closely with a number of government and community partners, including the Federal VA, Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Guard Units, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Vets, Dry Hootch, the Wounded Warrior Project, and many more.
