Bristol Death Investigation

September 17, 2013 – At approximately 1:20 pm today, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 6710 CTH N in the town of Bristol for a welfare check.

 

The call originated when an employer became concerned when an employee did not show up for work as expected.  When deputies arrived, they found two deceased individuals inside the house, one adult female and one adult male.  The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, along with the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office began processing the scene immediately. 

 

First thing tomorrow morning the Medical Examiner will perform autopsies on both individuals.  Following their determinations, additional information such as the names and cause of death will be released. 

 

***UPDATE***

September 18, 2013 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the deaths of Kevin S. Herskind, age 53, and Julie A. L. Herskind, age 52, has determined that Mr. Herskind fatally shot his wife Julie and then committed suicide.  The Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathy to the friends and family members suffering from this terrible tragedy.

 

Mr. Herskind also shot and killed a dog belonging to the couple.  Another small dog and three cats were removed from the home by an Animal Control Officer yesterday afternoon.

  

It’s unclear at this point what led up to the violence, but Sheriff’s Office detectives will continue to investigate the incident.
