County Executive Statement Regarding Voter ID Law Ruling

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi issued the following statement regarding U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman’s decision to strike down Wisconsin’s voter identification law. Parisi served as Dane County Clerk, the county’s top election official, from 1996 – 2004.

 

“Judge Adelman’s decision is an important victory for voting rights. 

 

“Our job as public officials should be to insure that everyone has access to the voting booth.

 

“Voter ID laws do just the opposite; they create barriers to voting that disproportionally impact  senior citizens, college students and people living in poverty.”
