Two men are in custody following the burglary of Dane Electric located on W. Main Street in the Village of Dane.

Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call of a burglary in progress at approximately 1:50 am on Wednesday, June 11th.  The suspects had fled with four stolen guns and a number of power tools, but not before an alert neighbor had captured photos of their vehicle. Deputies used the photos to gather suspect information, and aired a description of the vehicle to other law enforcement agencies. The operator of the Merrimac Ferry had been monitoring a police scanner and recognized one of the vehicles on his ferry was the 2004 Pontiac Bonneville that deputies were searching for.  He contacted authorities and delayed the ferry’s arrival to shore until Sauk County Sheriff’s deputies were waiting on the other side.  Lucas Wille, age 28 of Merrimac, was taken into custody and a search warrant was conducted on his vehicle, where some of the stolen property was recovered.

Deputies made contact with the second suspect, Collin Schubert, age 23, as he left his home on South Street in the Village of Dane.  Schubert was armed with a handgun reported stolen in the burglary and he was taken into custody.  A search warrant was conducted at the South Street residence, where deputies recovered additional items from the burglary.

Both men are currently being held in the Dane County Jail on charges of Burglary while Armed.
