Today, County Executive Joe Parisi announced the acquisition of the Rattman property for the Cam-Rock Park. The acquisition will feature a dog park and significant frontage area on the Koshkonong Creek and stream. The Cam-Rock Park (currently 440 acres) is located along Koshkonong Creek between the Village of Cambridge and Village of Rockdale on Dane County’s eastern edge.
“I am thrilled to announce the acquisition of more land for the popular Cam-Rock Park,” said County Executive Parisi. “This park is home to important natural resources as well as significant regional recreational activities including hiking, cross-country skiing, fishing and canoeing/kayaking. Dog owners will be able to enjoy the large new dog park.”
The purchase price of $959,000 for 83 acres is based on fair market appraisal. Cam-Rock is a popular statewide recreation destination for single-track trail mountain biking. The Koshkonong creek and the feeder stream on the north end of the property will allow for greater protection of our waterways.
The tract meets multiple Cam-Rock Park master plan objectives; it will allow for permanent protection of land and river resources while expanding opportunities for mountain bike trails in an area adjacent.
The acquisition will also enhance regional trail linkages to the Glacial Drumlin State Trail to the north and other resources to the south (Silverwood County Park). It will also provide key land connection to eastern section of the park and its shelters.
