County Now Accepting Grant Applications for Projects That Would Enhance County's Lakes, Lands

Two Matching Programs Available Through Dane County Environmental Council to Help Local Conservation Organizations Make Their Project a Reality
Applications are now being accepted for two county grant programs aimed at partnering Dane County with local conservation organizations to help enhance and protect the county’s lakes and lands, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today. The grants are being offered through the Dane County Environmental Council (DCEC).
“People love our lakes and lands – they are among the many reasons Dane County is a great place to call home,” said Parisi. “Our grants are here to help local organizations finish a project that would make these natural spaces even better for everyone to enjoy.”
As part of the Land and Water Legacy Initiative, the Capital Equipment Grant Program will make awards of up to $2,500 to assist with the purchase or rental of equipment or services that will benefit Dane County conservation projects.
In addition, the Community Partners Grant Program will provide up to $1,000 for projects that promote environmental education, conservation, and restoration in Dane County.
Each dollar in county grant funding is estimated to generate three dollars in matching funds for grant recipients and their projects. Last year, the county awarded more than $18,000 in grant dollars to help complete projects ranging from invasive species removal to the purchase and development of educational signage for county parks.
The DCEC is appointed by Parisi and approved by the County Board. The Council's mission is to assist groups in recognizing and protecting natural areas in Dane County and to assume an educational role in the awareness, conservation and protection of the environment.
The programs, administered by the DCEC, are competitive. Application materials are due on Tuesday, February 28, 2014.
