Additional Highway Improvements Slated for  2016 in County Executive’s Budget

Work to reconstruct a road that gets visitors to and from the popular Cave of the Mounds and other parts of scenic Blue Mounds is complete, County Executive Joe Parisi announced today. Dane County, in partnership with the Village of Blue Mounds, rebuilt Highway F in the Village this summer.  The project included construction of a new bridge for the incredibly popular Military Ridge State Bike Trail, and widening the highway, which serves as a prominent gateway into the Village.

“Whether it’s the Cave of the Mounds, Blue Mounds State Park, or Brigham County Park, the Blue Mounds area is a one of a kind destination and upgrading this road is good for both residents and visitors alike,” Parisi said.

The reconstruction of Highway F included the addition of curb, gutter, and storm sewer. The project that was designed and constructed by Dane County Highway staff and cost approximately $1.5 million with both the County and Village of Blue Mounds participating in the project.  As part of the County’s partnership with Blue Mounds, the Village will be responsible for future maintenance of the new road including snow plowing this winter.

This is the first of county road repairs slated for the Blue Mounds area.  County Executive Parisi's 2016 budget introduced last week included $1 million for the resurfacing of Highway Z in the Town of Blue Mounds.  That project includes the replacement of an aging bridge and several culverts.  The total cost of the projects is $1 million.

“As the fastest growing county in Wisconsin, it’s imperative we invest in critical infrastructure, keeping our roads and trails safe and our economy and tourism moving,” Parisi concluded.
