County Snowmobile Trails

As of 1:00 PM on January 26, 2016 the snowmobile trails in the NW and NC Regions of Dane County are open (https://www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/snowmobile.aspx).  This includes the Military Ridge State Trail and trails #35 (access to Columbia County) and #37 (access trail along STH 51 near the Village of De Forest).

“I know the snowmobiling community is excited to hit the trails.,” stated Duane Meyers, President of the Council of Snowmobile Clubs.  “This is the first time the trails have been open this season, and we want to remind trail users to use caution. There may be uneven terrain and potential open water areas in the marshes and waterways that will be windswept with minimal snow.”

Sergeant John Brogan from the Dane County Sheriff’s Department reminds users that a State DNR Snowmobile Trail Pass is required to ride on the trail system. “The majority of the snowmobile trails are on private lands so all users must stay on the designated marked trails,” Sergeant Brogan stated. “Venturing off the trails is considered trespassing and riders may be issued citations.”

County Cross-Country Ski Trails and Winter Recreation Areas
