Local Construction Jobs Group Project BIG STEP Holds Career Fair

MADISON – In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week Project Big Step will be holding a Career Fair at the Labor Temple 1602 South Park St. on Tuesday, November 15th, from noon-6:00 PM. People looking for a career are invited to attend. Project BIG STEP works with labor leaders and employers in construction to keep business competitive and promote family supporting jobs.  Project BIG STEP is supported by a partnership between Dane County and the Building Trades of South Central Wisconsin.

 

In 2014 Dane County Executive Parisi launched “Project Big Step” to connect skilled employees with construction companies that are ready to hire.  Since 2014 the Dane County Budget has included $30,000 a year to help administer Project Big Step in Dane County.  Modeled after the successful Milwaukee program of the same name, the multi-phase approach works with contractors and the building trades to identify needs for employees for upcoming projects.  Big Step will then partner with local community organizations to recruit and train individuals to fill those needs.

 

“I am proud to have brought Project BIG STEP to Dane County,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “There is a large need for construction workers in Dane county and construction jobs are family supporting jobs. Come on down to the job fair Tuesday.”

 

Come find out about careers in construction from the industry. Skilled trades and contractors will be in attendance. Attendees can find out about hands on training BIG STEP is planning for 2017.

 

 "Apprenticeships continue to be a wonderful tool for our industry to train individuals for highly paid, careers in the skilled trades,” said Dave Branson Building Trades of South Central Wisconsin. “These are careers that will always be needed in our community. We are looking for serious candidates." 

 

 "The construction boom continues in south central Wisconsin and we expect 2017 to be very strong” Brian Hornung, Findorff Construction. “That is why we need a skilled, diverse workforce who can take on these opportunities.
