Dane County Emergency Management is hosting the National Weather Service’s Severe Weather Spotter Class on the first day of the Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week,  April 17, 2017.  It will be offered twice, from 2-4pm and again from 6:30-8:30pm at the Alliant Energy Center’s Exposition Hall (1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, Madison, WI   53713).  These classes are FREE of charge and no registration is required.

Severe weather is the most prevalent hazard in Dane County.  Being prepared for severe weather includes not only learning about what is in the skies, but taking action to prepare your household before severe weather strikes.  One of these actions should include learning about Dane County’s warning system and sign up for specific Dane County’s alerts at  https://em.countyofdane.com/warning/default.aspx.

“Learning about different types of severe weather and what to do when it threatens helps keep you and your families safe when the skies darken,” Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said.  “Science tells us we’re seeing more incidents of extreme weather all across the country and now more than ever it’s important to plan and prepare.”

Emergency Management Director Charles A. Tubbs, Sr. wants to remind people that being prepared requires an investment of time.  “Being prepared is a combination of having knowledge, skills, and stuff.  The Severe Weather Spotters class is an opportunity to build personal knowledge about severe weather.”
