Dane County Land and Water Resources Department announced today that the Tenney Lock will reopen on Saturday, July 22. The Tenney Boat Lock facility had been closed this year to make upgrades to its mechanical infrastructure. The project also added remote controls to the spillway, allowing staff to control lake levels in real-time.
“I am pleased that upgrades for the Tenney Lock are complete so boaters can enjoy the lakes during one of our busiest months,” said County Executive Joe Parisi. “The project modernized the Lock’s infrastructure and will make it operate more effectively.”
The Dane County Tenney Lock is a popular recreation facility located on the Yahara River at the outlet of Lake Mendota. The Lock allows for the passage of boats between Lakes Mendota and Monona.
The Tenney Lock will follow the same time schedule as 2016, from Thursday through Sunday. This year, Dane County will also open the Tenney Lock on Wednesdays throughout the month of August to allow for increased boat usage, due to the delayed opening.
