Reconstruction of Hwy Q Getting Underway

A busy road that moves traffic in and out of Waunakee will be reconstructed this summer under a new agreement between Dane County, the Village of Waunakee, and Town of Westport, County Executive Joe Parisi announced today.  County Highway Q, known to Waunakee residents as Century Avenue, will be rebuilt from Highway 113 (Main Street) south to Woodland Drive.

"We live in a day and age where local governments are able to get more done by working together and sharing resources," Parisi said.  "Thanks to the Village of Waunakee and Town of Westport, together we're re-doing a busy thoroughfare, making it safer and easier to travel."

Dane County is contributing up to $1,060,000 for the project.  The estimated total cost of the work being done is $2,880,686.  In addition to reconstructing the existing road the project will also add sidewalks, curb and gutter.

According to Waunakee Village President Chris Zellner, “Intergovernmental collaboration has been key to much of the success we’ve enjoyed in this part of Dane County. In this case, the project on Q and Century Avenue will further improve access to Waunakee’s rejuvenated and vibrant downtown area.”

As part of the agreement, Waunakee will take over responsibility for snow removal and the ongoing maintenance of the road from Main Street south to the area just north of Meffert Road effective this November 1st.

Work is expected to be completed by fall.
